The price of living in NYC

We all know things are expensive in New York –

Parking space in the West Village – $225,000 [http://www.nytimes.com/2007/07/12/us/12parking.html]

Bedroom in the East Village – $1,500 a month (this is average, I’ve seen worse but come on) [http://newyork.craigslist.org/mnh/roo/1883134910.html]

A bottle of perfume – $200,000 [http://www.nydailynews.com/lifestyle/2007/12/03/2007-12-03_imperial_majesty_perfume__can_be_yours_f.html]

An umbrella – $250 [http://newyork.timeout.com/articles/shopping/73556/the-best-umbrellas-in-nyc]

Dessert – Frrrozen Haute Chocolate at Serendipity 3 – $25,000 [http://cityroom.blogs.nytimes.com/2007/11/07/25000-for-a-hot-chocolate/]

Or how about just a $125 burger? [http://www.observer.com/2008/fancy-175-hamburger-flaked-real-gold]

Sure, I understand the need for all of these things, some people here in the city have expensive taste and need to indulge in eating gold (by the way – what color do you think it is once it’s passed?) but one thing I do not understand or appreciate is how freaken expensive a box of cereal is…

I took this picture in my local Gristedes a few weeks ago, I’m not a regular of the place – I’d rather walk a few extra blocks and go to the family owned store – but the $8 box of cereal just pissed me right off and I hope it pisses you off too.
